Grieving is a Private Thing

Grieving is a private thing,

It’s difficult to share.

Your friends and family cannot bring

Relief, although they care.

“Why God, did you take my love?

Why do You punish me?”

I want to hear from Him above,

I plead on bended knee.

The grief and pain go on and on,

The anger starts to build.

There is no answer, I’m alone.

This can’t be what God willed.

Yes, grieving is a private thing

Because it’s deep inside.

We have to let it out to bring

An ebbing of that tide.

Let the tears and anger flow,

Let the voices rise,

Don’t hold in, just let it go.

Now! Open up your eyes!

Look around, who do you see?

It’s others just like you.

We cannot take your private grief,

But we have been there too!

No, we can’t take your grief away

Or ease your pain inside

But we can be with you each day

To wait for that low tide.

We may never understand

Why God has willed it so.

But He will take you by the hand

When He wants you to know.

Goodbye Grief

Goodbye Grief, it’s time for you to go,

You can’t be with me forever,

You’ve done your job, you know.

Goodbye Grief, you not welcome here,

You stuck yourself within my heart,

And stayed this long, long year.

Get out, Grief! I know that you’ll return;

For an hour, day or moment,

To make my poor heart yearn.

Thank you Grief, for making me feel strong.

I faced you and I beat you,

(But I know it’s not for long).

Chorus

I know that I will see you in an old familiar place,

Or maybe in that certain look upon my daughter’s face.

I know that you’ll be waiting when I walk into a room,

And you’ll reach out and touch me when I see an orchid bloom.

OK, Grief, I’m going to walk away,

I’m not going to wait for you,

But you’ll be back one day.

Hello Grief.

I Thought of You Today

(In Memory of Doris Graham)

I thought of you today, When I opened my eyes,

And the world that you loved is still here.

I thought of you today, When I saw the sun rise,

And it’s warmth made me feel that you’re near.

The memories that we shared, May wither with time,

But the love that we shared is still here.

And memories that we shared, Will only be mine,

Until God makes them all disappear.

I thought of you today, As I started again,

Down the road to “no-one-knows-where”.

You helped pave the way, for me to begin,

A new life with new memories to share.
